West Virginia Northern - Part 1
I scanned these for Matt Reese and Gary Carlson a few years ago. Most of these I showed at Mon Con.
These are scans of suitable slides in box 1 of 4.
1. WVN SW1200s 51-50 at Tunnelton WV. 04-07-1971.
2. The engines are working on the original B&O main line which at this point serves as a switching lead for the small interchange yard. The Kingwood Tunnels are west around the curve, although the old tunnel is sealed by this point in time. Yes it snows in April at this elevation.
3. WVN terminal at Kingwood WV. 10-07-1979.
4. ex-DT&I business car 1907 “Dearborn.” My notes say this car is ex-PRR 7528 and sold to DT&I in 1954.
5. WVN diesel shop.
6. Probably where the crew reports to work. I wish I had photographed those glass cased bulletin boards. That’s our 1977 Toyoto Corolla hatchback on the left.
7. Sand tower, water tank and probably the steam locomotive engine house.
8. Obviously ex-B&O, but I don’t know the class or number. It’s not in Dwight Jones’ book with the I-5 cab roster. Looks like one of those that had the truck centers increased for higher speeds.
9. A flanger that probably came from the B&O.
10. Evidently I didn’t roster the crane.
11. Caboose. View 2.
12. Water tank and sand tower.
13. Water tank close up.
14. WVN dump car was ex-B&O X308.
15. WVN caboose, a little closer up.
16. The “home office” of the WVN was located up in the town of Kingwood as I recall. 10-07-1979.
17. WVN diesel shop with the SW1200s parked inside. Kingwood WV. 09-22-1980.
18. WVN diesel shop, closer up.
